So I finally got to the beans

This is where the tub planter was located.

It was only after paying $10,000 to have hanging branches, broken trees, and downed trees removed, that we were able to get back there. The white cloth hanging there used to protect that tub from too much rain coming off the roof of the house. That piece of roof isn't there any more. Not sure which piece is "stacked" against the hall and kitchen there.

Anyway, God protected that little garden. I may try to get there again and plant some more beans.
I harvested a few beans a couple days ago.

We microwaved them yesterday and they were really good. Not the way I would normally fix green beans; but we made do.

And yes I know it's been a month. And yes there is still that much to clean up. It's only been the two boys to do it. With all the holes and root balls and such to watch out for, they get really upset if the husband or I try to get around and do stuff.

Party City reopened, so we are grateful that one son has picked up some part time hours. The supposed unemployment that was promised never showed up. I praise God it wasn't needed.

We are back.

The weather was crazy when we left last Friday! It rained so hard we couldn't hardly see the front of the hood on the truck. And we went through several storms like that. It mostly rained in some form every day we were gone. Louisiana had a tornado watch until that Saturday, but we didn't see any damage from that, so we were blessed.

Brought our youngest son back with us as there aren't many jobs in NC, and certainly none where we used to live.
Didn't take a lot of pictures there, but have taken a few here.

This is some garlic that I did not pull up before I realized that garlic needs to grow a full year before harvest. At least, that is what I read somewhere.

We've redone the grape supports this year, for the space that hubby gave them. We'll see if we did good or need to rethink entirely.

Redid the potato tower, too. Now it's basically two raised beds like this, with peas.

And yes, we still have the redneck planters, too. Trying celery again, though it gets much too hot here, so I'm not sure why. That is a garlic that we kept too long.
The other planter, the lilies are growing, and I planted some marigolds.
The bin in lower right that I did not take a picture of, for reasons that escape me right now; I planted a couple of tomato seeds in, some purple beans and some carrot seeds. We'll see how it goes.

Okay, so I think I planted too many

green beans. At least for the first year. Not used to all this. We were going to start small, he said.
This is my stock pot, next to my water-bath canner pot on the stove. I was heating water to blanch those beans.
That's two days of picking, not counting what we ate for dinner.



I need to get a canner and learn how to use it, I guess.

My internet has been really slow lately. Hope you are all well.

Wet wet wet

Had a heck of a thunderstorm last night. The ditches are full. Thankfully we seem to have dried quicker than usual. That is a very loose term though, as the garden is very very muddy.
I had to get out though as hubby has been going in town the last couple of days, so I haven't been able to get to the garden and check everything.

Anyway, I thought I'd share our second small harvest of broccoli.



Hubby got me that wicker basket at the flea market for $2!



As I said, I was a few days behind harvesting. We gave the neighbor - the one who told us about the tax problem - three heads of broccoli about the same size as these two. We blanched and froze ours.



I put my glasses here so you could judge the size of the heads. It rained again while I was harvesting, so I had taken them off to dry them.



These are the green beans I picked. That's a 2L jar next to the colander so you judge the size of it. That's home made jerky in the jar, by the way. I've been making our jerky since roughly 1975!
