I want to thank Kathy, over at Moving on to the Past, for thinking of me when she gave me this award.
I hardly think I deserve it, but I do want to thank you, Kathy. :-)
Now, I'm supposed to tell you seven things about me that you don't know. Not sure what I haven't told you already. Not remembering as well as I used to, haha.
I believe I've told you everything of interest, and probably a lot of no interest to anyone. ;-)
Oh well, if you've heard these before...
1. Met my hubby at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi. Pretty sure I told you the rest.
2. I do NOT LIKE BUGS of any size or type. (I include bees, wasps, spiders, etcetera in this group. All types of creepy crawlies and fliers.)
3. My eyes are hazel, but they can look green or brown depending on the light or what I'm wearing.
4. I had toy dinosaurs and cowboys and Indians when I was little. Yes, I had dolls, too, but I didn't play with them. ;-)
5. I enjoyed building model airplanes, and schooners from the plastic kits.
6. I taught myself guitar, but was only acquired a basic skill.
7. I am pretty much enjoying retirement.
Now I'm supposed to give this to seven people who's blogs I like so they can do the same. I don't like putting people on the spot. (Should have made that number seven, I guess.) I think anyone who blogs every day deserves an award! I wouldn't want anyone to be upset if they didn't make my top seven.
The blogs I read most often will know who they are, because if I read, I comment, even if it's only a hug or a ♥. If I comment, I'm giving the award to you. :-)
Hope you all have a wonderful, safe week for the start of September! (Look at me. Start of September? We're already into week 2!) ♥

Paradise not quite lost
So. I was going to do a post and tell you what a beautiful day we had today. I was going to show you the nice mess of crappie, 1 blue gill, and one bass out of a dozen we caught; that we kept.
But instead, I will tell you about the neighbor across the street. She came over this evening and talked to hubby while I was in the pasture collecting a few pecans. I don't know if they are last year's or this year's pecans, but I was collecting them.
Anyway, came to find out that when we were robbed, they were robbed too. Someone broke into their house and their tool shed.
Looking back over my posts, it was Friday the 13th that we got here and found things had been stolen.
Anyway, turns out it was the neighbors just up the road from us that had broken in. The house on the other side of the empty field.
Apparently there were about 20 cop cars out there yesterday and the couple was arrested.
For cooking Meth in their house.
And maybe for the thefts, too.
Apparently the wife had just gotten out of prison for drug related stuff...
We were in Shreveport having a great day off, haha!
But the ignorant people label?
Someone poisoned the neighbor's golden lab. We just saw the dog yesterday morning so it happened sometime in the last 24 hours.
She doesn't think her dog will live. :o(
It may not help, but please pray for her dog.
All this got me to thinking of something that happened a little earlier when I went out to check the laundry.
A smaller blue pickup truck slowed down by the driveway. I thought it might be one of the two people I've been waiting to call or come by for various reasons.
But they didn't pull in. Just sort of off the shoulder, in the driveway. Then they drove to the empty field and pulled into that driveway and just sat there for a bit while I was taking my laundry down.
(I have my clothesline strung on my porch until we can sink posts for clotheslines.)
Not sure why this person stopped there, since the neighbor up the road has equipment there right now. They were out harvesting the corn in the back field.
After 4 or 5 minutes, the person drove off.
After what the lady across the street told my husband, it definitely left me feeling unsettled.
We have actually locked the house doors, even though we are here.
And tonight, Mr. Kimber will be sleeping with us, too, I think. Not sure about 5/7, but you never know.
I don't like people who are mean to animals. I hope God has a special place for them.
God bless you all. Have a wonderful Tuesday. ♥

Just a note to let you know we're still here.
Literally and figuratively.
We're doing okay. Trying to stay cool while trying to pack and not seeming to make any headway.
Hubby got sick right before bed, then felt better. With the heat, his lunch sat in his stomach for EIGHT HOURS. He told me "You'd think with everything I drank to stay hydrated, it would have flushed it out."
But at least he felt better when we went to bed.
We'll be on the road sometime tomorrow. And probably have to come back one last time to get the last of it. Seems like with all that we've already moved, packed, given away or tossed, we've barely made a dent.
How do you collect so much stuff?
We're getting a hotel room tonight so we can pack our bed.
38 years on Friday.
60 for me today.
He jokingly told me I was officially over the hill.
I told him I was not.
But this heat and humidity certainly lets me know I am not in my 20s any more.
If you celebrate the 4th, have a safe one! (And thank you for celebrating my birthday, Haha!)
If you don't, have a safe day anyway!
I may be out of touch for as much as a week or two, if we do have to make a second trip back to get the rest of our stuff, we're going to drop this load, get a night's sleep and come back.
Just know that I think about you all and hope you all stay safe and well.
God bless us, everyone. ♥

So, I was awarded The Versatile Blogger Award...
I think I'm more of a barely blogger than a versatile blogger, but thank you for thinking so highly of me, Clint!
Here are the RULES for the Versatile Blogger Award-
1. Add the award to your blog.
2. Thank the blogger who gave it to you.
3. Mention seven random things about yourself. (see below)
4. List the rules.
5. Award to 15 bloggers.
6. Inform each of those 15 by leaving a comment on their blog.
So 7 more things about me.
1. I'm a pretty private person. I think that's why it's so hard for me to keep my blog updated.
2. I have a hard time talking to people I don't know. That's what I love about blogger.
3. I am anxious and nervous about our nearing retirement -- but I think you knew that.
4. Hubby is pretty much over his cold, but my head still feels pretty stuffed.
5. We celebrate our 38th anniversary this July. Where did the years go? It doesn't seem that long.
6. I will officially be on the Far Side of Fifty this year, too.
7. I hope to one day be as knowledgeable as Becky, The Canned Quilter, Gail, John, Thomas, my brother Wayne; or any of the many other blogs I read about gardening, farm life, animal raising, etc. A lot to learn, and God willing, I'll get there, too. :-)
So there you have it. 7 more things about me. Sort of.
I can't really pick 15 bloggers though because I love all the blogs I read; so if you read this, consider yourself awarded because you all deserve it!
Have a blessed Saturday!
We're headed out in a bit to visit with the Brother-in-law, go to Whole Foods, and do other things that you can do in the 'big city' (aka Raleigh, NC, here) that you can't do in the little towns that hubby and I prefer to call home. :-)

Sometime Sunday
There were green ones, too, but this is the only one that sat still long enough to get a picture of it.
God Bless, John. Hope the new week treats you better. ♥

Almost there
But it is dark so no pictures of our arrival. It is raining lightly here. Don't know about the farm.
Hope you all have a Blessed Sunday. Please pray for a friend's sick grandson, too. Thank you.

Large Prayer Circle
As evidenced by people living in Oklahoma, West Texas and South Texas, and ever-increasing areas in other parts of the country, the drought condition
is reaching critical status; cattle are being auctioned; crops have burned up; and drinking water is becoming a concern. Please join us in this prayer circle.

January is almost half over!
I've enjoyed catching up with everyone and reading posts. Laundry has been beating me, but I'm catching up on that, too. (I don't like ironing though...)
My memory is really getting spotty some days. I told doctors years ago I thought I was getting Alzheimer's. They told me I was too young. I think they just don't want to bother. So I make a lot of lists, but sometimes the least little thing can make me forget mid sentence.
I am also putting off doing our taxes. It always makes me antsy to do them, for lack of a better word.
Fortunately we did not go to the farm the end of December. As it turned out the weather would not have been conducive to doing anything and with fuel prices only going up, it's too expensive to go too often.
Instead we're going back down the third week of February and hoping to replace the pump house. We wrapped the pipes before we left on our last trip and a good friend checked in December and said everything looked good. There's been some really cold weather since then (kind of unusual for the South), and hopefully everything is still okay. We put in a new water line for the house. Well, it will be when it's extended; it's just for the trailer right now. But we never got the trench refilled because of all the rain, so we just covered it over with plywood. Hopefully it is still okay, too.
When we go in February, we're only going for a week this time. The pump house will be the main project. If we have time, we're going to try to decide what to do with the kitchen floor. Hubby doesn't want it any thicker than it is, so if the plywood that is there won't come up easily, we'll probably just get a sealer for it. I really wish when people did something, they'd take the time to do it right.
How hard can it be to see THIS SIDE DOWN? And even if you can't read, can't you tell by the look that maybe a certain piece or two of wood should be flipped over?
Oh well. No sense complaining about what can't be changed, right?
We have snow! Unexpected. They said we'd only get rain but all the rain seems to be staying outside the Outer Banks. And of course I took the camera back out to the truck yesterday, because I've been forgetting it when we go anywhere and I wanted it when we saw the Bald Eagles. Go figure, haha.
Happy Monday to you all! :-)

HAPPY NEW YEAR
I said it before, but I'll say it again. I hope you all have a blessed, happy New Year. :-)
We went to the brother-in-law's today. Ham, collard greens, green beans, potato salad and black eyed peas.
While this 'heat wave' sticks around, we're hoping to go fishing tomorrow.
Enjoy your first weekend of the New Year!

Thanks for the award, CCC!
I'll put it here for now, as I am HTML challenged and clueless, haha. But thank you so much, CCC! :)
Sweet blog award. Thank you!
I'm supposed to pass this to 10 people, so here goes!
1. My brother. Should be a landscaper, but he runs his own salon and landscapes his own back yard. Does a fantastic job! Visit Wayne's World to visit my closest of 5 brothers. I wish I had just a little of his talent. ;) He shares photos of his trips, gardens and the hundreds of flowers and plants he has.
2. My oldest boy. He and his wife and daughter are living the great adventure in England! She is going to Royal Holloway University of London. It's been a big adjustment for them all, but I am so proud of him and what he has accomplished there. Visit Chris and check out his other blogs, too.
3. My sister-in-law, who I am getting to know through the internet. She's going through a rough time right now, but I want her to know I love her a lot!
All the rest of you, haha! I am getting to know a lot of you through your blogs. Some of you I don't know personally by name, so forgive me for that please. :) But I found all of you through common interests or through blogs that I read and I am learning a lot from you as I get to know you. :)
4. Pam, who farms in Georgia, hence Life on a Southern Farm. She and Farm Man are an amazing couple. I am learning a lot about farming in the south from her blog. Her's was the first blog I found through the common interest of chickens. :) If you raise chickens, I think his chicken nesting boxes are the way to go. I am going to talk my hubby into buying some.
5. Randy actually lives just North of me. Found him through Pam's blog. Chicken Boys are kind of beginning farmers, too. Or homesteaders. Not sure I know the difference. But I enjoy reading his blog. :)
6. Callie of Chickens on the Porch. She free ranges her chickens and that's what we will be doing, too. We'll need all the help we can get keeping the bug population down and if we can do it without poison, so much the better!
7. Melodie over at Laughing Duck Farm. She lives in Texas, so another Southern perspective to help me learn. A city girl needs all the help she can get. ;) I love reading her blog, too.
8. Garden Gnome I'm learning a lot about cooking over at Mom's Cafe Home Cooking. I didn't learn how to cook until after I was married. Sad, I know; and then I learned to save myself because hubby put BBQ sauce on everything. Meat, potatoes, rice, vegetables. Don't get me wrong, BBQ sauce has it's uses, but ugh, haha. Now it has to be Mushroom Soup on everything. ;)
9. Matt over at Foothills Poultry. Chickens and cats. What more can I say? I just enjoy reading about his chickens. And he's got a couple good links there, too.
10. Thomas over at A Growing Tradition takes some of the best photos. He's got a great garden, too, and between him and my brother, I really want to try growing potatoes on my own. :)
There are a lot of other blogs I enjoy, so you're all welcome to this award too. I try to read all my blog-world friends every day. I'm learning a lot about different ways of life and a lot about things I want to know about.
Thank you all for sharing your lives with me. And thank you, CCC for sharing this award with me. :)
It was 81 when I got up at 6:30 this morning. Now it's 76 with rain and thunder. I wish that those of you who need some rain are getting some! Have a happy Wednesday!
