Had a great time at the flea market yesterday

We even ate at a restaurant.

And no, no pictures.

Except for this.

That was a first for this flea market. :)

You all be safe and God bless.

Flea Market

Today was a really nice day. So being Saturday we went to the flea market in Livingston, Louisiana. V.Watts is only on the second Saturday of a month. I was glad they didn't give in to the fear of the latest flu.

We saw some friends, got some farm fresh eggs, hubby found a nice pair of headphones for his computer and I got a scarf for my neck when I forget to put on the darn sunscreen.

Also took a few pictures.

A really nice truck.

I love Wisteria.

Only took a couple pictures of the rest of the market. Oops.

And one of the lowest Diesel price we found. It's about 40 cents a gallon more here in central Louisiana.

We usually go to a second flea market, but it closed because of the flu. Boo! The little cafe there makes some really great chicken wings.

Hope you all are having a blessed weekend, too. Be safe and God bless. ♥

Happy Birthday to middle son.

Took him for crawfish, of course. :)

And we brought home some bread pudding with chocolate caramel sauce. :)

And yes, it was all as good as it looked. :)

You all be safe out there. People are getting more crazy, if that is possible.

We will take precautions; but we are going to the flea market this weekend. Supposed to be 81 and partly cloudy. We'll see if heat and humidity kill this new flu like it does most all flues.

God bless!

So we went to Lafayette yesterday

Even though it rained all day Friday and into early Saturday morning, it had stopped by 8 AM.
Went to the Jockey Lot flea market as usual. High temp on Saturday was at most 65, so nice weather for walking around. Found some tools to fill in holes in tool boxes and bought some videos.

Did some shopping in Lafayette and had lunch at a restaurant called Izumi Ramen. Had a great lunch with no leftovers like we usually have.

The pictures are not mine, I stole them from Waitr.

Hubby and I each had some fried gyoza.

Then we shared Hibachi steak and shrimp with stir fried vegetables and fried rice. All in all a really good meal.
Remember this is not the meal we had, I think this is chicken; but other than that it is exactly what we had. I will get a picture of ours next time (if my memory doesn't fail me!)

We had a nice day out. Didn't get home until almost 6PM. And best of all we didn't really feel rushed. We could have done more in Lafayette; but we were just tired and wanted to get home.

I think fall has arrived in Louisiana. It's nice.

God bless.

Hubby's new power chair

If I remember right, it weighs 350 pounds. We went to the Lafayette Jockey Lot Flea Market yesterday, and he was able to go through all of it relatively easily with this chair, except for some of the entrances. The market had put gravel at all the entrances to create ramps, but weather has worn them down quite a bit.
He was very happy and said his chair will help him with flea markets and Air Museums.
He met an Air Force retiree while we were there, and they had a good chat, too.
As you can see, we had a gorgeous Saturday!

You can click on the pictures to make them bigger.

The little baggy is because the people who installed the lift and put the chair together (a small business does it for the VA) told us that keeping the controller dry was very important.
We do have a cover for the chair (which he won't use in nice weather because it blocks the rear view mirror more than the chair alone), but this is a little added extra.

So there you have it. We see many more flea market trips in our future!

You all be safe and God bless!

A short post

We ate some more great crawfish this weekend.

Next time I should get a picture of the Bananas Foster Cheesecake they have for desert. Oh wow! Good stuff!

It is Elderberry season. Well, almost. :)

It was pretty sunny this morning when I took the picture, so sorry for the quality. Maybe I'll get a picture later in the day next time.

The pecan 'flowers' have all turned brown and most have fallen off. This picture is from one of the older trees I call the Christmas pecan tree, because the pecans are pretty much always bigger and heavier than the others so they make good Christmas presents.

Hard to believe we have to wait until the end of September or October before we can eat them. :)

The magnolia trees are blooming everywhere down here.

All the blooms are way over my head so that's the best I could get.

And we found 3 turtles in different places in the pasture that were laying eggs.

You can click the pictures to make them bigger.

It is definitely summer here. Low to mid 90s for the last week and the next to come. Just means we are a week closer to fall. ;-)
You all be safe and God bless. ♥

Another bit about Saturday

So after the flea market, he decided to go to Lafayette. We had lunch at Gator Cove Seafood Restaurant.

Gator Cove is a restaurant we discovered last year. We hadn't eaten there much, because they used to be closed on Saturdays for lunch. But no more!
Hubby had the shrimp basket; but I had the crawfish. There's been talk on the radio and tv that the season is almost over (!) as the farmers switch their crawfish ponds over to rice.

Some of the biggest and best crawfish of this season! Yum! I can definitely recommend Gator Cove for crawfish or shrimp. Or try something else on the menu. :)

Hope you all have a safe, blessed May!

You know it's spring

when you have to watch out for bumps in the yard.

Every year they come over from the bayou across the street.

I've never really seen any hatch. They don't bury them deep enough and everything likes turtle eggs. There are still a few fox around, though we mostly see them crossing from or to the bayou. Blackbirds, starlings and grackles love to dig the eggs up, too. I expect the armadillos dig them up while doing their nightly searches, too.

And we the catalpa trees blooming, too.

We're hoping for some worms this year; but we aren't holding our breath. We've never seen them on any of the catalpa trees in 30 miles or more of our house.

Looking at rain for Easter. We'll see. If you click the pictures, I think they expand...

You all be safe and God bless.

Another flea market weekend.

What was different about this weekend was we left Friday afternoon and stayed overnight in Hammond. Hubby had a set amount for a room, so we decided on Western Inn.
It was not a Best Western, haha.

When I checked in to see about a room, there was a sign on the counter that said We Do Not Rent to Locals. I thought about asking about the sign, but decided I didn't want to know.
It was an okay room. Let's just say we slept with our guns out of their holsters...

After I got the room, I asked about someplace nearby for crawfish. It is, after all, crawfish season. And while I should have taken more pictures, lets just say I was hungry and the crawfish were great! I would definitely recommend Chookies Seafood and Oyster Bar to anyone passing through Hammond, Louisiana!

That young man was playing saxophone when we got there, and was still playing when we left. Not exactly sure what he was playing, but he had sheet music in front of him. There was music inside the restaurant also, so you couldn't hear him unless the door opened.

When we headed to the flea market, we stopped by a donut shop called Mary Lee Donuts. The 'Hot Now' sign was lit. And yes, I should have taken more pictures...

The donuts were light and airy, not heavy like some. The best donuts I have had in a long time.

The flea markets we have been to before, but it is the second weekend of the month. V. Watts is an antique furniture store, so we stopped in Friday and saw some nice pieces. Was nice to go before the Saturday crowd!

And we also went to the Flea Market of Louisiana, as they bill themselves. Click on the pictures to see them larger. And yes, they let people sell trailers and all sorts of things there.

Crossing back over the Mississippi on the way home, this tug was pushing a bunch of loaded barges up-river.

And crawfish ponds, which in a few months will turn into rice fields again.

And sugarcane fields. They harvest the cane three years in a row before they have to plant again.

And now I need to stop playing around and do my ironing. I hope you all have a blessed week!
