Yup. It's that time of year. We went fishing again. Lost a nice flathead catfish. First one we've seen around here.
Ken figures it was about 10 pounds, but we weren't rigged for something like that. We use light-wire hooks because of the small bluegill/panfish, and all the branch trout that like to eat lines.
Light-wire hooks bend so that more often you get your rig back.
Ah well. To ensure we don't catch that catfish again, we're going to see if we can find one of our landing nets to take with us. ;-)
We also caught a couple nice bass. Fun to catch but we throw them back because we don't like to eat them. Don't even know the regulations to keep them.
Watched some gar spawning. Saw an eagle, too, but no pictures.
I did take pictures of the half-dozen bluegill panfish we caught though. :)
I think we've managed to catch enough to eat with some stir fried onions and bell peppers; and maybe add some brown bread. We'll figure something out.
An early Blessed Easter to you all!
You should give that big catfish (that got away) a name and start a folklore about him!
ReplyDeleteHaha. Grouchy, that's a good idea. Probably call him Flathead.
ReplyDeleteHubby caught a nice channel cat today. Will post a couple pictures tomorrow. :)
Ahhh,,so nice to have your meal from nature and not the grocery store! Looks like you all had a good day! Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteLook at all the beautiful colors! My husband is the fisherman in the family -- he catches and cleans, I cook or bake. :)
ReplyDeleteWell they look fine to me! Hope you had a great meal at Easter!
ReplyDeleteThanks
Leontien
Looks good to me..Happy Easter! :)
ReplyDeleteMelodie, It was very nice. :)
ReplyDeleteNancy, I always went fishing with my dad. :)
Hubby does most of the cleaning, too, because he fillets them. :)
Leontien, thank you. We had a great meal with leftovers for another one! :)
Far Side, Hope you all had a nice Easter Sunday! :)
Not a big fan of fish... alive, dead, on a plate, in the water, in a tank... something about them I don't like... LOL
ReplyDeleteAh. Not everyone is, Nicole. Two of our boys won't eat it either. :)
