4 days to our next trip

Have another sleep study. This time at the hospital, since the CPAP machine is not the miracle cure for me that it is for most people. I find it annoying. The small mask is a bit too small, the medium mask is a bit too big, they both tend to leak and they really bother my eyes and throat. We'll see what the hospital comes up with, if anything.

Friday after hubby gets off work, we leave on our next trip to the retirement property to mow and see if the weed killer did anything about this.

Hubby really wants to get rid of the Johnson grass. The closer we get to retirement, though, the less I want to be using pesticides. Once we get there and can keep it mowed, that should hopefully take care of the problem more naturally. In this spot at least, tilling is not an option. The septic leach field is here.
Johnson grass is one of those things where people don't clearly think out all the ramifications before they do something. Like Kudzu, Nutria and allowing exotic species to be imported for people to own.
Ah well. We'll just keep plugging away and see what happens.

Hope you're all having a blessed week!

  2. Yeah good luck with the sleep study! our neighbor has one of those masks and he says it works really well for him.... not for his wife, because that thing makes a LOT of noise....

And yes crazy people who bring stuff that they shoudn't should be punished!

  3. Hi Leontien. Well, I think it was a mixed bag, so to speak. They said I did well half the night and then I kept holding my breath? I told them I didn't think I did that, but that's what they said.
I have an appointment with the doctor in a bit, so we'll see what he says.

    Have a great day!

  4. Johnson Grass is a noxious weed and I think it takes pest killer to get rid of it. It'll overrun the land if people don't take care of it! I think the highway departments even have to spray for it.

  5. I've been reading up on it, Nicole. It is definitely that.
We sprayed a lot of it with a broad leaf herbicide in May, we're hoping that it had an effect. If not, we may spray (more) Roundup on it when we go back this time.
The University of Missouri and the Missouri Department of Conservation both have good information on control - and hopefully eradication - of Johnson grass.

But yes, we will probably have to spray again.

  7. Thanks, Cowgirl. I've been using the machine for about a month off and on. It's mostly annoying to me, though hubby says he thinks it has helped. :)

  10. Hey Linda, Deputy Dave and I took a "goat class" in Houston a couple of months ago and we had several people in the class who had Johnson grass hit severe drought conditions which turned it to poison and all the goats that ate it died. One woman in Houston lost 13 goats to the Johnson grass turned toxic due to extreme drought. A lot of other people in the class never knew this about Johnson grass, including us, until the goat lady shared her misery in the goat loss and then another goat owner spoke up to say they he'd lost a few goats to the same thing, drought toxic Johnson grass. We have St. Augustine grass, but parts of our land has another type of grass...I'll have to make sure it's okay to leave in place once we get farm animals out there.

  11. Linda --- PS on the CPAP stuff...Deputy Dave sleeps with one and now he won't even take a nap without putting it on. But, it took him a long time to find the right mask. It does leave indentions on his face, but he said that it's been a perfect solution during a cold because it forces air through his sinuses and makes him actually feel better. I have a blog friend, her blog is about stained glass and gardening, can't remember the name off the top of my head, but she is in my sidepanel and has a picture of herself with her CPAP mask on and a home-made face softie to go between the mask and her skin, which she says helps a lot. :-)

  12. Lana, thanks so much for the information on Johnson grass! I did not know that it became toxic during drought. Guess we will have to work harder to get rid of it before we have cows or chickens. I don't think it has gotten into the pasture. Yet.

I've heard of so many people liking their CPAP machines. I think I may have to look at different masks, too. The hospital had me use a different kind, so I'm going to give that a couple days and see how it goes. Thanks again for all the info! :)
