Red sky at morning, sailor take warning.

This was the sky from my back porch yesterday morning, looking roughly northwest.

It really was an awesome sight.
But a little over an hour later, no more billowy clouds, just a lot of gray. This one is from the front porch, looking East.

The next two are from the back porch again. No more bright light.

And sure enough, by another 30 minutes, we had rain. We had thunderstorms on and off and a lot of rain last night, too. Now Lee has sadly gone Northeast to places like New York which don't need any more rain.

Irene had blown all the flowers off my crepe myrtle, but as you can see, it is blooming again. :)

I pray all my friends in Texas, get some rain soon. And I pray those in the Northeast see an end to the rain.
A Blessed Thursday to you all. ♥

  1. I have a freind in northeast PA. They are reeling from Irene and now, Lee. Flooding. Her last post was the authorities are evacuating the shelters.
Us? Luckily, we seem to always be on that line in the middle of storms. The I-95 corridor.

  3. I've been so sad for my neighboring Texans who are battling fires and major losses. It is just devastating. Our land did get some rain, so it is better protected from more forest fires, but other areas are bone dry and just burning.

Last evening, my daughter was headed to her college class and the college sent out text messages with an emergency message that there was a grass fire next door to the college, but it was currently under control. It seems to be everywhere around here.

  4. Really glad to hear you got some rain, anyway, Lana. I've been keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

  8. Just happen to come across your Blog and noticed your Post about Sailor Take Warning.

Serving in the US Navy for 11 yrs. this saying really does hold true. "Red Sky in the morning, Sailor take warning. Red Sky at night, Sailor take delight."

There is also another saying for those who are at sea that killing a albatross will bring you bad luck. This happened to our Destroyer while up on "Sea Dragon" in North Vietnam while on a "Search & Destroy" mission. I witnessed a fellow shipmate kill a low flying albatross that was hovering just over our heads on the flight deck. Not soon after, we took hostile fire from a Viet Cong shore battery. Scared the hell out of me. We returned fire and destroyed the Shore Battery. Maybe it was just ment to happen that way, but to this day I still wonder.
