One of the best things about going into town was going by the bakery and smelling the fresh bread baking.
Talk about heaven.
Now though, the sad thing is that after maybe 90 years or so, that bakery has closed. A casualty of the union dispute with Hostess, Inc.
My husband remembers going there when he was growing up, and buying little nickle loaves of fresh warm bread. A highlight of his youth. :o)
Terrible loss to the city and the 350 or so workers who went to work a week ago Friday to find pink slips in their boxes.
Hope you all have a blessed Sunday! ♥
It truly is an end of an era. I hope all those who have lost their jobs can find employment quickly....
ReplyDeleteI hope you enjoy your Sunday too!
we have a hostess bakery in our town too and now hundreds of workers are unemployed. I'm sure they've lost their pensions and everything as most of them were long time union workers. What's this world coming to when you can no longer get a Twinkie or Ding-Dong?!
ReplyDeleteI lived on the Economy in Germany and had a Bakery just a few yards from the house. The smell of fresh bread in the air was glorious. Then, 10 or more years ago, I worked in a bakery. Got so used to the smell, I hardly noticed it, unless it was burning. Still, was nice to reach onto the cooler and grab a nice warm bun or piece of a misfigured loaf of bread.
ReplyDeleteHow horribly sad.
ReplyDeleteThat's so sad! Hope the workers are able to find new jobs. This isn't a good time of the year to be jobless, but I guess there never is a good time.
ReplyDeleteHope you are having a nice weekend!
Such a huge loss...very, very sad.
