Falling behind but still here!

We really are.
Like many of you in the triple digit heat or heat index areas, we get started outdoors early. Then in the afternoon, we go looking for sinks or disc plows or whatever we need to get the morning stuff done.

Got the floor tiles laid in the kitchen. I like them.

I considered for just a moment, doing the whole house in some sort of self-stick tile, but then got my common sense back. I do like the wood floors.

Anyway, by the time we stop for the day, it's usually somewhere between 7 and 8 PM and we still need a little dinner of some sort before bed.
Not a lot of internet time.

Got up early today (5!), yes I know it's not really early; but we're still adjusting to all of these changes; to try and catch up, and it's almost 6:30 already and all I've done is the online financial stuff and some email.

Oh well. I will get there sooner or later, it will just probably be later.

On a brighter note, hubby has been able to cut back on one of his diabetes medications. :o)
He was taking 2 Janumet a day. One in the morning and one in the evening.
In the short time we've been here, he now takes half of one pill in the morning, and the other half at night.
So there is definitely reason to be glad for the change.

I meant to post this yesterday

But we were both tired, so I didn't.
Saw this little fellow sunning himself on the road as we turned for home.
We stopped, he backed up.
Sorry for the video quality. All I had was my phone and we were in a moving truck.
Then I couldn't see to focus!

If you look in the upper left corner of the rear view mirror, you can just see a dark line. Then again in the 'arms' of the mirror, and finally, I sort of managed to focus on what I want you to see.

Ignore the obvious stick, haha, though 'Cajun Wally' is posing just above the stick.

One question answered, but another still to be found.

Yup. One question has been answered. Our yard is thick with Elderberries.
This is going to be a picture heavy post, if my phone connection will hold up.

Remember the berries that looked like grapes? Those are still here, too.

Some of the leaves look a little like grape leaves, some obviously don't.
I know that BEES like them. Or wasps or yellow jackets or some such. You might be able to see one in that third picture. They were all over the bushes by the old barn.

I've done a lot of laundry here. Between mud, dust and the week on the road; I am mostly caught up. But I dry the laundry on a clothes line so the rain is a bit limiting there.

I saw a snake last week. Stopped me in my tracks. One of many 'farm' critters I am terrified of. A mocking bird had been chasing something. I was going to check my laundry and scared the bird. Then I saw what it had been chasing. A HUGE (to me, haha) snake was headed toward the porch. Roughly 3 to 4 feet long with a mosaic pattern. I did not have my camera and I did not go to get it. I did not move.
I stood there until it turned away from the steps and went into the, as yet unmowed, Johnson grass by the porch. Then I turned around and went up on the porch from the other side of the house.
Yes I did walk all the way around.
I told hubby about the snake, but it had already disappeared by then.
I identified it from the internet later as a rat snake.
Hope it eats all the mice and rats. Be fine with me.
With fields across the street from us, and fields behind us, I'm sure it finds plenty to eat.

Just a quick post

Before I go back to laying floor tiles.
I apologize in advance for the quality. Took the pictures with my phone.

This is a tree of poison ivy.

And before you say anything. Yes, I know it's not a real tree. ;o)
It grew on a crepe myrtle and broke it. Well, something broke it; so it lays against the fence. Those nice, big, green leaves? That's some healthy (!) poison ivy.

And here at the entrance to our property? Better keep your eyes open. Don't just wander in...

Because if you're not careful, this green above the side gate? Yup. That's poison ivy, too.

Am doing my best to catch up, but not quite making it. Sorry.

Third time's a charm?

I've been trying for 3 days to do a post. Blogger mobile has been a brat. I actually have time to use my laptop, so let's see if it will work today.

We've been here, finally, since Thursday. Three days. Hubby's brother asked how he was doing. Hubby said we are feeling a bit... weird?
We spent most of a week on the road. Got here the first time, the afternoon of the 6th. Drove straight through. Had several white knuckle moments - like rain when I could not see hubby in front of me - but we (I!) made it. I drove my new to me car, pulling our small utility trailer; he drove his truck, pulling our big utility trailer.
The utility trailer started out fishtailing. A lot! Scared the daylights out of me and I had to drive slower, too. Hubby figured (rightly) it was because of its design and made some modifications to it, in a Lowe's parking lot.

May look wonky, but it improved the tow-ability 1000%. Since it is a 'tilt' trailer, he put a hitch pin on it, too. It worked great. Only took a couple hours longer to get here than usual.

We stayed 2 days and then went right back to NC to get the last of the stuff we couldn't load on the 2 trailers. Rented a U-Haul - can't say enough good about that - and started loading the most important of what we couldn't get before. (Air compressor, bed frame, etc.)

We still had a few things to load when it started raining. And I do mean pouring. We both got completely soaked. And no way to change. So, we decided we were done packing the U-Haul - after packing a few more things, got on the road and after about 2 hours (6PM our time) we got a hotel room so we could get into some dry clothes.

We took our time getting back here to the farm. A luxury we were never able to afford ourselves before - at least in our minds.
Now we keep feeling like we need to hurry so we can get back to NC. Like we usually do.
Except that, like he told his brother when he called, there is no back to get back to.
There could be. I mean we decided to rent the house instead of sell, but there isn't really. He is still coming to grips with the fact that he is retired.

On another note, we tried painting the floor of the kitchen. He decided it wouldn't do what we wanted it to, so we are trying a self-stick tile. We put 3 pieces down, to see how it will hold, and so far we are really liking it.

I know I am way behind. Will try to catch up,but now that he is retired and we are here, I don't have as much time to be online.

We're almost here

but not quite.

We got here Friday afternoon, about 2:30 PM, I think; but I don't remember, haha. It's all kind of a blur.
I drove my vehicle and he drove his. We both drove a trailer. I had problems with mine. I'll show you later how hubby fixed it.

We're taking a couple days to recover from driving through after loading trailers for three days. Then we go back to NC to get the rest of our stuff.

Then maybe we can start settling in.

We're still trying to take it all in.

Any idea what this weed is?

Bed time. Need more rest than we used to.

Just a note to let you know we're still here.

Literally and figuratively.
We're doing okay. Trying to stay cool while trying to pack and not seeming to make any headway.

Hubby got sick right before bed, then felt better. With the heat, his lunch sat in his stomach for EIGHT HOURS. He told me "You'd think with everything I drank to stay hydrated, it would have flushed it out."
But at least he felt better when we went to bed.

We'll be on the road sometime tomorrow. And probably have to come back one last time to get the last of it. Seems like with all that we've already moved, packed, given away or tossed, we've barely made a dent.
How do you collect so much stuff?

We're getting a hotel room tonight so we can pack our bed.

38 years on Friday.

60 for me today.

He jokingly told me I was officially over the hill.

I told him I was not.

But this heat and humidity certainly lets me know I am not in my 20s any more.

I may be out of touch for as much as a week or two, if we do have to make a second trip back to get the rest of our stuff, we're going to drop this load, get a night's sleep and come back.
