Things around the homestead
I can't remember if I posted about the acorns, but we have more acorns this year than any year since we retired here. It's like walking on crunchy snow.
I think the poor pecan season is over. We have had three days of rain. Four if we count the crazy thunderstorm we had around two this morning.
The cart holds about 6-8 inches of water. Another photo, just shows how far up the porch the wet came. The back porch was wet to the door, but I didn't take a picture of that.
Pecans picked in the rain get moldy if you don't have a way to dry them. We do often dry them, but I don't like picking them in a cold wet rain.
And pecans that you miss, that sit in several inches of rain, split. Split or mold, no one buys them. I think we got maybe 70 pounds? That thanks to son Robert. He has been a great blessing to us.
I am thinking we will keep all of them. Just in case. They store well in the shell.
From what I have read, all this rain, with leaves still on the pecan trees, should hopefully mean a better year next year. Apparently each pecan season is dependent on the weather the previous year. I'm lucky to remember what I did yesterday, let alone what the weather was last fall!
I hope some of this rain moves on to states that really need it.

Fall in NC
I did not get as many pictures as I hoped, but we mostly had a safe trip. Hubby thought he twisted his knee one day, and it has been bothering him today.
Got a couple pictures though.
I really miss the Raleigh (NC State) Farmers Market. Open 7 days a week, 8-10 hours a day. Nothing like that in Louisiana. Nothing comes close.
But the trees there were pretty.
And we had a nice visit and lunch with Oldest son and granddaughter at a place called Breadman's. Our first time at the restaurant, but I would recommend it.

Father God, we humble ourselves before You, and ask you to forgive this nation for its sins. The United States of America has turned its back on You and Your commandments. It has condoned the taking of innocent life, rebelled against Your authority, and made it illegal to even mention Your name in many public venues.
Father, we ask You to have mercy on us, and grant us not the judgment we deserve, but Mercy. Please Lord, give us one more chance to fulfill our original promise to You, and proclaim Your lovingkindness to the nations of the Earth.
Lord, let Your will be done here, including tomorrow's election and in the days to come.
We ask it in Jesus' name. Amen.

Three years ago, a farmer uncovered a 166-year-old headstone in his cotton field. The name on the headstone is Valerien Gremillion.

"He chose to dig up whatever he was hitting,” said David Gremillion, Valerien’s lineage. “Without that curiosity, we would still not have this wonderful stone."
Thursday, a group of friends and family gathered at St. Paul the Apostle cemetery, to restore the headstone to its rightful place. A similar ceremony took place 166 years ago.
"A stone is forever; life is forever," said Father Irion St. Romain.
An unknown number of headstones disappeared after they were removed to make way for maintenance work in the 1950s. It is believed townspeople took some of them to create sidewalks.
"The record keeping was not what we would call up to standard," said Kenneth Gremillion, also Valerien’s lineage. “That's something that we find very distasteful."
Discovering the headstone encouraged the Gremillion brothers to learn more about their history. It was through this process that they joined “Sons of the American Revolution.”
"His father fought in the American Revolution," said David.
David said understanding the difficulties their ancestors lived through serves as encouragement.
"A grounding that sees us through the difficult times of our lives," said David.
The Gremillions believe other headstones are still lost in the Avoyelles area. If any are found, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church hopes to restore those headstones as well.

For you, Mom ^___^
Saw this on the porch the other day as we were heading out.
The wild morning glories grow like crazy around here. Much better than anything we actually plant flower or food wise, haha.
The spider lilies are blooming, but we are keeping up too well with our mowing, because of pecan season nearing. Pecans seem to be iffy so far this year. And some are already dropping. Just have to wait and see what God will provide this year.
And we have started replacing windows in the house. 13 so far, if I remember right. Maybe 14. Still have 15 to go, haha.
They are double pane, insulated windows. Hopefully when we are done, it will help with heating and air conditioning.
October tomorrow and stores already have Christmas stuff out.

Our weekend began Thursday
Because we wanted to go to Bass Pro Shop in Denham Springs and Northern Tool in Lafayette. We found everything we were looking for. The good news is they will open a new Northern Tool in Baton Rouge soon (whatever that means), so it will be one trip to Baton Rouge/Denham Springs for that.
Friday, hubby stepped on a piece of glass in the spare room that we have no idea where it came from. I have been in and out of that room, barefoot, dozens of times with no problem. He was in and out of the room in his stocking feet several times before he stepped on it. Being diabetic, that meant going to urgent care for antibiotics; and the doctor wanted to be sure there were no glass fragments.
Our new love seat came while we were at the VA. The boys took care of that for us.
In spite of all of that, we have a lot to be thankful for.
Only a little rain. Nothing like Iowa this time, or North Carolina.

We had more (!) rain yesterday
But the sky pretty much cleared to leave us steamy warm. We were out and about to junk yards trying to find a matching rim to replace one that cracked, or split, on our Navigator. Near impossible to find in Louisiana.
I find clouds fascinating, as Mr. Spock would say. ^_^

We had another inch of rain, I think.
I'd rather it be us than Baton Rouge or the other flooded areas in Louisiana. It was a pretty quick storm. About 40 minutes of thunder and lightning. About three minutes with no power. Not bad at all.
Please keep Southern Louisiana in your prayers. Be safe and God bless you all. ♥

Most of Louisiana is under a flood watch.
A bit odd for August, but this was Friday.
Baton Rouge and areas south had it a lot worse though. 16 or more inches of rain since Thursday. Two deaths flood related as of when I went to bed at 2300 last night. May God comfort all who lost loved ones, or who have been displaced from their homes.
