Thank you, Mom!

So my Mom sent us some money for Christmas and we used it to take everyone to lunch.
We did not go to the Paragon Casino again. As much as I love their buffet, hubby does not like driving all the way to get there.
I did some thinking and we decided on Noodles and Grill Asian Cuisine. It's right in town and has something that everyone can eat.
They were really

Youngest son Patrick.

He has several health issues, among them being that we never know what is going to make him sick. It is a problem we have been chasing for several years now and is still ongoing. We know a lot about what it is not, but not what it is. Spice of any kind and most seasonings, too, are a definite no no; as are potatoes in any form. So he got the beef fried rice.

Fried rice is pretty much always safe for him. This place doesn't make theirs with soy sauce like a lot of places do, which is also a plus.

One thing we like about this restaurant? Bean sprouts. It may sound picky, but a lot of Asian restaurants around here don't serve bean sprouts. Even the Tao restaurant in Lafayette doesn't. But they do here and we like bean sprouts.

Middle son Robert.

He did two tours in Iraq and has PTSD. He likes things spicy, so he got the Penang Udon.

He said it wasn't as spicy as it looked; but was still very good.

Hubby ordered Wonton Egg Noodle Special.

I ordered the Pepper Steak. When it came out it didn't look like pepper steak, but I tried it anyway and it was really good, with just a bit of a bite to it.
When we got the receipt, it turns out it was Triple Meats with spicy Garlic Sauce.

All in all, a great lunch. THANK YOU, MOM!

Saw this little one

When I was out picking pecans a couple days ago. Thought maybe it was looking to build a nest, but it might have just been looking for bugs.
Not sure how many we've picked so far. A couple hundred pounds or so. The rain slows us down. They don't like wet pecans, understandably, because they can fungus or mold. Same if the ground stays too wet for too long.
But we do what we can and it will all be fine.

Now we need to watch the ads for turkey sales.

Only a little pier fishing

Didn't really catch anything. Small ones to throw back. A gar, that I didn't take a picture of; and a snake bird or Anhinga. Didn't get a picture of that either. Have you ever noticed that your eye can see things clearly that your camera can't? Pretty amazing, don't you think? Hubby and I were discussing that yesterday. The driver in front of us was quite obviously texting while driving. We discussed taking a picture and turning them in to the police. But the camera would have had to focus past our windshield, and past the reflection on the back window of said car, to get a picture of the cell phone in the driver's hand while they were tapping their message.
While the human eye can sort past all the distraction to see the evidence, the camera often can not. Just pretty amazing.

I did take a picture or two of where we were fishing.

The funny thing about this spot. There is a place where they obviously used to do boat rentals, but don't any more because of the huge weed infestation. One of the trees in another area actually has a sign that indicates canoe trail. I don't think even a canoe could get through this stuff. Last year they did a draw down on the lake to reduce weeds. Not sure what weeds, but it obviously didn't affect the water lilies. Some of the leaf pads were big enough you could almost imagine walking on them. I was disappointed not to see any frogs on them, haha!

If you look to the right of my fishing pole, you will see a lighter green tree between two darker ones (cypress all, I believe). The dark spot in that lighter green tree is the Anhinga. I watched it closely because the first I saw of it, it was pushing itself out of the water onto the tree and I didn't really know what was going on at the time. I lost sight for a minute, but then saw it again as it flapped its wings. That was when I realized it was an Anhinga. Then it would hop to a higher branch and 'shake' its wings again. It did this for several branches and may have well reached a top branch to sun itself dry; but we had decided to to leave before that point. All we were catching and seeing, as I said earlier, were little ones. It was 95 degrees plus humidity, so we didn't see any reason to stay longer.

Birthday and anniversary coming up. 64 and 42 respectively. Yay? Don't get me wrong, I am happy on both counts. We are truly blessed. It is just I never expected to see the decline of America. And certainly not in my lifetime.
I pray that God may take pity on us.

Not much to post about

Trying to do a bit of catching up today, blogwise.
Had a few friends over yesterday who hadn't been able to make it to the reunion. We did a small crawfish boil for them, with a little of our sweet corn that we managed to save from the 'coons...

I have a new respect for small farmers, that's for sure. :-)

We still have Wisteria blooming.
The cicadas are starting to make their noise music.


So, tomorrow I will be another year older, haha! We're going to see Despicable Me 2! Some days I start to feel it a little bit. Especially with all the changes to our lives this last year. I'll be... wait for it.... 29. Haha!! Sorry. Not really. I'll be 61. Gosh. Where does the time go?

And this Saturday we celebrate our 39th anniversary. We're thinking of going out to dinner. Want to do a few things we won't be able to do after hubby gets his shoulder surgery next Thursday the 11th. He's ready for it now, as he says it has been bothering him more and more.

Just a note to let you know we're still here.

Literally and figuratively.
We're doing okay. Trying to stay cool while trying to pack and not seeming to make any headway.

Hubby got sick right before bed, then felt better. With the heat, his lunch sat in his stomach for EIGHT HOURS. He told me "You'd think with everything I drank to stay hydrated, it would have flushed it out."
But at least he felt better when we went to bed.

We'll be on the road sometime tomorrow. And probably have to come back one last time to get the last of it. Seems like with all that we've already moved, packed, given away or tossed, we've barely made a dent.
How do you collect so much stuff?

We're getting a hotel room tonight so we can pack our bed.

38 years on Friday.

60 for me today.

He jokingly told me I was officially over the hill.

I told him I was not.

But this heat and humidity certainly lets me know I am not in my 20s any more.

I may be out of touch for as much as a week or two, if we do have to make a second trip back to get the rest of our stuff, we're going to drop this load, get a night's sleep and come back.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I said it before, but I'll say it again. I hope you all have a blessed, happy New Year. :-)

We went to the brother-in-law's today. Ham, collard greens, green beans, potato salad and black eyed peas.
While this 'heat wave' sticks around, we're hoping to go fishing tomorrow.
