After two days of blessed rain,

Our yard is getting a little waterlogged and is starting to look like the bayou across the street...

We would have to get a LOT more water to worry about flooding, though, as we are higher than the bayou across the street, and higher than the bayou/diversion canal a few miles down the road. So we are truly blessed, even if the yard is going to be a sponge to walk on for a few days.

And can I add that First Amendment rights or not, I think some people on the Clinton News Network should go to jail for their subtle insinuation of murdering President Elect Trump and Vice President Elect Pence. That is troublesome and treason.

Flea Markets

We love flea markets. We got spoiled early on, in California, when we discovered Denio's Farmer's Market and Swap Meet. It's in Roseville, Califonia. I think the name has changed since we were there in the 70s. I am pretty sure it was Denio's Auction and Flea Market then. It is HUGE. Takes up a couple blocks, as I recall. We would love to go and see it again, but, California. :-[
North Carolina has a big flea market at the state fair grounds in Raleigh that is open every weekend except when the State Fair is actually held.

It took us a couple years to find flea markets here in Louisiana. There is the Jockey Lot in Lafayette. It's open every weekend. The inside is mostly small stores. Pretty much the same stuff every weekend. I have been bad and didn't take pictures. I will try to do so in the spring when they are busier.

Anyway, this weekend we went to Livingston, Louisiana; and Prairieville, Louisiana - which is basically Baton Rouge.

V.Watts Trade Mart, in Livingston, is open three days a week. Once a month, on the second Saturday, they become V.Watts Trade Day. It wasn't real busy, but we still had a good time looking at all the stuff for sale. It has been a while since we have been able to go, because the SAR (which hubby became a member of last year) has their meetings the same day of the month. Personally, I find SAR boring and would rather go to the flea market... There is always a police officer on duty here, probably because parking is a bit crowded.

Prairieville (Baton Rouge) has a weekly flea market called The Flea Market of Louisiana. When the weather is nice and all the stalls are open, it is a really busy place. They do not allow guns on the premises, so we always leave ours in our vehicle. This weekend was the first time I actually saw an officer on duty there. They seem not to have been bothered by the flooding that hit Easter Baton Rouge, Denham Springs, and a lot of the other small towns in that part of Louisiana last year.

We left about 0730 Saturday morning, and up until about 10 AM, this is what travel was like.

We have found a few other flea markets. There is one here in Alexandria, but it isn't really worth mentioning. There is one in Arcadia Louisiana, called Bonnie and Clyde Trade Days. It is only open the weekend before the third Monday of the month. It is pretty sparse in the winter months, but should pick up in the spring. It's pretty busy in the summer. And there is one in Greenwood Louisiana (practically in Shreveport/Bossier City), called simply Greenwood Flea Market that is open every weekend. A lot of the sellers here, and at Bonnie and Clyde, are the same ones every weekend with the same stuff for sale; but it's nice when someone different shows up with different stuff for sale.

As I mentioned, I will try to remember to take pictures of the flea markets we go to; though that is not what is on my mind when we do. :)

So last weekend,

as you recall, we had rain, thunderstorms and tornadoes.

Those same steps today.

Ice covered. You can't see them, but there are little icicles at the bottom of the hand rails, which are also covered in ice. High tomorrow, 39 in the deep South.

But Tuesday? 70 degree weather is expected all week after Monday. Thank goodness for global warming!

Some crazy weather today

Pictures don't show it well, how gray the sky was this morning. It was a lot darker than these photos look.

We had one thunderboomer that quite shook the house on its pier and beam foundation, but the house stayed firm.

It rained most of the day today. But then the sun came out and we had all the usual puddles. It was hard to get photos because the sun was shining into the camera.

Listening to the ten o'clock news (2200 for you military or government types), we were blessed once again. Places all around us got hit with really high winds. Roofs were torn off, big trees uprooted. Thousands of people without power. One church in a nearby community was lifted off its foundation. But we were safe, though the lights flickered and DirecTV lost its signal as it often does in the rain. I even managed a load of wash and dry. I will fold it tomorrow sometime.

I am hoping for good things this year. Praying for God to lead Mr. Trump and our mostly new congress to actually accomplish something that will truly help America this year. Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he can feed himself always.
Or something like that.

Update: The weather service determined that Louisiana had 8 tornadoes yesterday. I am thankful to God for keeping us safe.
