Not much happening here. It's hot. Not many daylilies left. Just a couple of the yellow ones. Don't have the camera in the house so no pictures today. The crepe myrtle is still blooming well. The honey bees and bumble bees love it now. I see lots of them around it all day long.
My experiment with growing some beans in 5 gallon buckets is probably not going to be a success. They're pretty pale. I added a little blood meal to them, but between the late start and the heat, I don't expect them to do too much. Oh well. I wasn't expecting anything to happen. I can't really count on the boys to care for a garden and right now, it's more important to travel to and from Louisiana when it's semi-cool out for the work we're doing. So we go in mid-May and we'll be going again the end of October, first of November. Maybe I can finally get the kitchen painted...
Saw the doctor today for my annual physical. My cholesterol is a bit high. The bad cholesterol, that is. The good cholesterol is actually very good, but since it's been yo-yoing for a few years now, they decided to try me on some medicine. Yay. ;)
TGIF! Going to Raleigh tomorrow. Probably go by the nice farmer's market they have there.
You all have a great, blessed weekend!
Hi Linda :) Your beans might benefit from a dose of epsom salts around the base. I'd use about 3 tbsp then water it in. They might also need an organic fertilizer as do most vegetables grown in containers.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize you traveled to and from Louisiana. That must make things a bit on the interesting side to say the least. Sorry to hear you are on cholesterol medication. Hopefully that will bring things around for you.
I hope you enjoy your time at the farmer's market! I'm looking forward to hearing what you bought and what you make with it.
BTW, I tried your experiment of frying an egg in our driveway during our heat wave. It didn't fry so that was a bit disappointing.
Hi GG. :) I can do that. I have epsom salts. I'll do that after we get back from our trip tomorrow. :)
ReplyDeleteYup. We have property there that we are hoping to get ready for our retirement. (That's almost a scary thought right there, let alone learning to homestead.) ;) He only gets roughly a month's vacation a year. We couldn't really afford more than that anyway, haha. So we split that into 2 weeks for each trip.
We usually enjoy the farmer's market. I'll try to remember to take some pictures. :) I won't be doing anything special with it though. Just making normal everyday meals. :)
How hot was it when you tried to fry the egg, do you know? Just curious. :) I'm going to wait until we get around 110 before I try again. ;)
Thanks for the suggestions and thanks for stopping by. :)
That epsom salt thing. . . You can spray peppers with it to set the blooms and then watch the peppers pop. We used to do it years ago and only grew peppers once every 2 years cause we would have so many and then dry them and it took that long to use up a season's worth.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, CCC! I need to remember that because we'll definitely be growing peppers. :)
ReplyDeleteWell,it will be time for fall gardening soon and that makes for much easier veggie growing! Less heat ,more water, less bugs and weeds....I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Melodie! love 70 degree weather! Sometimes makes me wonder why we're retiring to Louisiana. ;)
